“To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ellie’s Hope Totes are an extension of Ellie’s Cart of Hope used by the Anne Arundel Medical Center’s Child Life Specialists to supply young patients with toys, games and therapy aids to make them more comfortable during their treatments. The Hope Totes project evolved from Matt and Ashleigh’s experiences and the feeling of helplessness a parent gets when their child is hurt or ill. The idea is to let the parents know they are not alone, and to take care of their basic needs allowing them to fully focus on their child.
A $15 donation fully supplies one Hope Tote to a family that finds themselves in the hospital either unexpectedly or for longer than they anticipated. Each reusable bag will contain basic toiletries not readily available through the hospital, a notebook/pen, snacks and a small fleece blanket. The Foundation will also supply the Child Life Specialists with extra changes of clothes for parents, phone chargers to borrow, and other items as needs arise.
