14 December 2016 – Initial Donation
On December 14, 2016 the For Ellie Foundation presented Anne Arundel Medical Center’s Pediatric Department with a $20,000 donation. During the ceremony, AAMC unveiled the cart used by the Child Life Specialists (pictured below) which they have renamed: Ellie’s Cart of Hope. Ellie’s Cart of Hope provides toys, games and therapy play aides for children in the DeCesaris Family Pediatric Unit.
The $20,000 donation will supply Ellie’s Cart of Hope for 1-year ($2,500), and help fund the Child Life Specialist Program which supports hundreds of families every week and oversees Ellie’s Cart of Hope ($5,000). In addition, the donation will fund the COPE program for 1-year ($2,500). This peer-to-peer program provides counseling and support to nurses and doctors when they have a traumatic emergency (like Ellie’s). The COPE program is instrumental in providing the support needed to allow caregivers to heal and continue to do the important work they do. Finally, the remaining $10,000 will fund critical care simulation training for the Pediatric clinical care team. Training is provided by Johns Hopkins Hospital and helps AAMC save lives by preparing them for more unusual emergency situations.
